What is a payment gateway?
A payment gateway is a service that is provided by a third party company. This service involves checking the credit/debit card details entered and confirming that they are okay to use.
Will I have heard of these companies?
Yes... Paypal is a popular payment gateway for many smaller shops. However, for a more professional approach, we believe that Protx (now SagePay) and WorldPay add a level of re-assurance to your site. It also adds a level of security because these enhanced gateways actually tap into the banking system and check the card details. Where as Paypal does not (it has other ways of assessing security). You can also take larger payment values with Protx & WorldPay.
What does it cost?
Paypal is standard with our shopping cart service.
We can add in these enhanced gateways, but they do incur additional time and, sometimes, a license fee. So, we need to charge an additional fee of £240.00+VAT to have this service added to your shop.
